Weekend Getaway

July 29, 2020.

We love the baby, really we do. But we haven’t forgotten our Pre-Ren lives.

Travelling adventures, sleeping in and laughing until our sides hurt. Going for food runs, not packing a whole bunch of st-okay y’all get the memo.

We were overdue for some “us” time.

Lucky for us one of my college besties had a wedding coming up and that would be their perfect opportunity for a couples weekend.

Let me say that while Covid-19 has been insane for all of us there are some silver linings. Historic lows in the traveling season means discounted flights, dirt cheap rentals and hotel upgrades out the wazoo!

How to take advantage:

1. Fares are cheaper right now. If you feel comfortable and if you’re destination isn’t shut down GO.

2. Book directly through airfare or car service- no crazy confusing cancellation fees or hoops to go through.What I mean is look on Kayak and see if you can book that fare directly with the airline via phone or website. It makes for less hassle if you miss a flight, need to make any changes.

3. Google google google! Always check itatravelmatrix for the best flight calendar. Always check the airline website directly and lastly check Kayak (but book through airline).

Now Tavien and I are parents parents. Besides the sitter and maybe my moms house a couple times a month it‘s only US, so we felt a little burnt out. It happens kind of slowly, I mean one minute your partner is fine af and you’re doing all kinds of wild things together and then BAM. KIDS.

So it felt SO good for us to have a “just us“ weekend. Starting with us having enough time to actually get dressed lol.

Y’all we laughed and played, and played and laughed. Between black history and music history I can’t tell you what I love most about Memphis. Well maybe I can. I loved the way it made us feel: that Black Excellence is in and of you ✨☺️

Idk if there’s anything more important to me than history y’all.

Memphis was really good to us y’all. Riding scooters at dusk, revisiting historical sites and reflecting on what we want for ourselves and our family really sent us into an intoxicatingly hopeful state. Hope for your people, hope for this country, hope for this little family.

I think my face says what I was feeling MESS.

Everything was so slow, as opposed to the usual rushing when there’s a party of 3. Slow strolls by the waterfront, fast scooter rides on Beale, we had time to really laugh with and at each other. We’d been missing that. Of course we love each other, but after a long week of work connecting can be a little hard sometimes.

I recommend every couple put some time to the side. If you’re like me make sure you let your support system know before hand! It’s my experience that family and friends want to do EVERYTHING to help support young families ❤️ My support team is small but MIGHTY and made sure they took care of our girl while we took care each other. Happy coupling!

Now I know why how come back pregnant.
